背中に顔を持つ虫のような存在が、樹木のような体にしがみつき共存し、祈りを捧げるような姿勢をとっている。顔部分のみが単独で発見されたこともあり、木の枝や電柱などの棒状のものに取り付いている状態で目撃されている。体部分は単独では動くことができず、顔部分と共存することで顔部分の個体が脳のような役割を果たし、体を動かしていると考えられている。その対象は、鳥居や座仏が破棄された場所で発見されることが多かったとされる。そこは神と仏の違いすら顧みられず、信仰の名残だけが雑然と捨て置かれた場所であった。

An insect-like entity bearing a face on its back has been observed clinging to and coexisting with a tree-like body, assuming a posture resembling that of offering prayer.
In some cases, only the facial component has been discovered independently; such instances report it affixed to rod-shaped objects such as tree branches or utility poles.
The body component is believed to be incapable of independent movement. When coexisting with the facial component, the face appears to function as a brain-like organ, enabling locomotion of the body.

The entity was reportedly found most often in locations where torii gates and seated Buddha statues had been discarded.
These were places where even the distinction between gods and Buddhas was no longer regarded—sites where only the remnants of faith had been left in disordered abandonment.
