蝶に類似した羽を有し、人型の外見を持つ存在とされる。

長く白い頭髪を生やしており、腕には複数の文字状の刻印が確認されているが、現在までその意味は解読されていない。羽は特定の条件下で青色に発光する現象が報告されている。この発光時、周囲の蝶が異常な行動を示すことから、光によって蝶を制御、もしくは誘導している可能性が指摘されている。

蝶は本来、昼行性の昆虫である。にもかかわらず、深夜帯に多数の蝶が確認された事例においては、葵蝶人がその場に存在、または直前まで滞在していた痕跡である可能性があると考えられている。

Under certain conditions, the wings have been reported to emit a blue glow. During these luminescent events, surrounding butterflies exhibit abnormal behavior, suggesting the possibility that the light is used to control or guide them.Butterflies are inherently diurnal insects. Nevertheless, in incidents where large numbers of butterflies have been observed during late-night hours, it is believed that this may indicate the presence of Aoi Chōjin at the location, or evidence that it had remained there until shortly beforehand.
