顔を持たず、六本の腕を有し、能面のような仮面を携えている。
顔が存在しないにもかかわらず、人間が接近すると、その能面がこちらを注視する挙動を示す。この仮面自体が視覚機能を有している可能性がある。
また、「面荒」と同時に発見される事例が多く、両者は互いに呼応し合う存在であると考えられている。
